Alliance Roots
In January 1999, the North Missouri Angus Breeders Alliance (N.
MO. ABA) was established, consisting of the New Cambria Livestock
Auction Market, Inc. and twelve of the top registered Black Angus
breeders in Missouri.
Mission Statement
This generation of cattlemen will face the challenges of a
rapidly changing cattle industry. The alliances mission is:
"to promote, advance, encourage, assist and support the
growth and development of the cattle industry for the small
producers in an ever-changing and competitive meat industry."
What is the North Missouri Angus Breeders
Alliance (N. MO. ABA)?
This alliance is a group of fifteen registered Black Angus
breeders plus the New Cambria Livestock Auction Market, Inc.
pooling their talents toward the common goal of merchandise the
progeny produced from the 600 sires sold annually by the fifteen
member breeders.
Why does Missouri need the N.MO.ABA?
The alliance's feeder calf and yearling marketing program was
organized in Missouri to improve the cow/calf producers ability
to market healthy, source-verified, genetically-superior calves
and yearlings from the 600 sires sold annually within the
alliance.
How can a cattle producer qualify to sell in
the N.MO.ABA sale?
A cattle producer can sell in the N.MO.ABA sale if they own
at least one bull produced by an alliance member. However,
after the fourth year, anyone who sells in the alliance sales
must phase out their non-alliance sires and use only N.MO.ABA
sires. Calves and yearlings must be home-raised and all
calves/yearlings will be vaccinated with the uniform health
program outlined by the Missouri Stocker/Feeder Quality Assurance
Health Program (White Tag, Red Tag, Blue Tag). Calves must carry
the N.MO.ABA ear tag and the Electronic Identification ear tag
distributed by the New Cambria Livestock Auction Market, Inc. The
Electronic Identification ear tags have been given to the
Alliance free of charge thanks to a grant from the Missouri
Department of Agriculture.
What are the requirements for the Missouri
Stock/Feeder Quality Assurance Health Program?
Participating veterinarians and producers will be certified.
All calves that are Show-me Select (White
Tag) must be properly identified with an approved ear tag.
They must have external and internal parasite control, dehorned,
castrated with a knife and healed, vaccinated with 7-way
clostridial, IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, haemophilus, pasteurella with
leukotoxoid. Shots are to be given no younger than five (5)
months of age and at least 21 days before the sale. Calves do not
need to be weaned for the White Tag. Show-Me Superior (Red
Tag) requires weaning 45 days prior to sale, booster shots at
least seven days prior to sale and a minimum of 21 days following
their initial vaccination plus all White Tag requirements. We
recommend the producers use the Red Tag Program.
The Show-Me Supreme (Blue Tag) must have all Red Tag
requirements plus sire's name, registration number, source and
breed of sire.
Why must the producer use the N.MO.ABA ear tag?
Each calf/yearling will be identified with a numbered ear tag
and an Electronic Identification ear tag that traces it to the
producer, tracking that animal back to the genetics of the sires
used. New Cambria Livestock will keep a computer record of
each producer's cattle regarding sires, health program and
ownership. This information will be used to obtain carcass
evaluation on the producer's cattle in the future. In the first
year of existence, the Alliance will receive carcass data on 1,000
head of cattle.
When and where will the alliance hold their
sales?
The alliance will hold their sales on
November 22, 2006; January 18, 2007; and March 22, 2007. They will be held at
the New Cambria Livestock Auction Market, Inc., New Cambria, MO
at 12:00 noon.
What are the operational procedure for the
alliance sales?
We recommend the calves and yearlings be brought in the day before the sale
to the New Cambria Livestock Auction Market. These cattle delivered the
day before will be fed and watered. Cattle will, also, be received the day
of the sale until 11:00 A.M. The calves and yearlings will not be
co-mingled this year. All cattle will be sold on "out" weights.
